The Love of Birds
“I always feel that the pictures are between God and the birds – and I get to be there to push the button down on the camera.” Gary Walter

From his photos, which are so indicative of the nature of his mind, heart, and soul, you get to know a man that is kind, gentle, humorous, careful, patient, and inquisitive. He has a sense of adventure and a calm candor when speaking about life. Like many artists, he exposes himself through his work. He is wonderfully jovial, animated when discussing his work, and unabashedly thrilled when his images inspire happiness in others.

Though Gary will travel great distances to observe and photograph tropical birds enjoying life and having fun (he frequents Costa Rica and this year spent 10 days in Ecuador), many of his images come from his own back yard and surroundings.

Gary is a lifelong resident of Marin County, California. He lives with his wife, Mary, their two cats (Lilo and Stitch), and enjoys the company of thousands of feathered friends.

“Nancy’s Poem”

I think what I want, and want what I think
So many nice things are happening, I don’t want to blink.

I listen to reggae and spend time with the birds
Thinking in pictures and sometimes in words.

Most things that happen begin with a thought
But blessings can find you that weren’t even sought.

Your heart, when it’s open, is in the right place
Loving and kindness are seen in your face.

So I think with my heart and not just my mind
Who knows what wonderful things I might find.

Some nice things are said, and you know, that’s all right
A lady, she told me, I’m sending out light.
